- Pursuant to Schedule 1 of the Education (Early Childhood Services) Regulations 2008, the Secretary for Education gives notice that the following qualifications are recognised as qualifications required to be held by a person responsible at a Playcentre affiliated to the New Zealand Playcentre Federation.
- A person responsible must hold:
- New Zealand Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care (Level 4) NZ2850, 60 credits; or
- Certificate in Early Childhood Education (Level 4) N4500 Manukau Institute of Technology, 60 credits; or
- Certificate in Early Childhood Practice – Centre Based (Level 4) NZ Management Academy, 60 credits; or
- Playcentre Practice (course 4 of the Playcentre Diploma in Early Childhood and Adult Education); or
- New Zealand Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care (Level 5) NZ2851, 120 credits; or
- Playcentre in Context (course 5 of the Playcentre Diploma in Early Childhood and Adult Education); or
- Diploma in Early Childhood Education (Level 5) WR3009 Waiariki Institute of Technology, 120 credits; or
- Diploma in Early Childhood Education (Level 5) 110016 Manukau Institute of Technology,121 credits; or
- Diploma in Early Childhood Education (Level 5) PR4911 Whitirea Institute of Technology, 260 credits; or
- Certificate in Early Childhood Education (Level 5) CA2282a Unitec, CN0904 University of Canterbury, PC9774 NZ Tertiary College or Auckland University of Technology, 120 credits; or
- Certificate in Education (Level 5) AK1275 Auckland University of Technology, 120 credits; or
- New Zealand Certificate in Nanny Education (Level 5) 109540 Nanny Organisation of NZ or PC9101 Ashton Warner Nanny Academy, 120 credits; or
- Certificate in Childcare, Education and Home Management (Level 5) 109272 The Nanny Centre (NZ),153 credits; or
- National Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care (Level 5) 430, 126 credits; or
- Diploma of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) (Level 5) PC1993 Bethlehem Tertiary Institute, 120 credits; or
- Diploma of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) (Level 5) WGES02 Victoria University of Wellington, 180 credits; or
- Certificate in Early Childhood Teaching (Level 6) PC2773 NZ Tertiary College, 240 credits; or
- The Playcentre Diploma in Early Childhood and Adult Education (Level 6) PC9565, 190 credits; or
- The New Zealand Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care (Level 6) NZ2852, 120 credits; or
- Playcentre Sessions (course 3 of the Playcentre Diploma in Early Childhood and Adult Education); or
- An Early Childhood Education teaching qualification recognised by the Education Council of Aotearoa New Zealand for registration purposes.
- Until 31 December 2020, the following qualifications are also recognised and deemed to be equivalent to the Playcentre qualifications listed in clause 2.
- National Playcentre Certificate; or
- Playcentre Federation Association Certificate; or
- New Zealand Playcentre Federation Inc. Certificate.
- This notice revokes the notice titled “Early Childhood Services (Recognised Qualifications for Persons Responsible in a Playcentre) Notice”, published in the New Zealand Gazette, 28 Jan 2019, Notice No. 2019-go352.
- This notice comes into effect on 24 February 2020.
