Notice That Certain Types of Electrical Appliances and Fittings Require Approval Before Being Offered

Approval requirement for electrical appliances and fittings before being offered for sale

Pursuant to Regulation 101 (1) of the Electricity Regulations 1997, I, Graham Boxall, acting under delegated authority from the Chief Executive of the Ministry of Economic Development, hereby give public notice that the types of electrical appliances and fittings listed in the Schedule require my approval, from 1 December 2004, before being offered for sale in New Zealand.
All previous public notices given, pursuant to Regulation 101 (1) of the Electricity Regulations 1997, are revoked and substituted by this notice from 1 December 2004.
All approvals, and conditions attaching to approvals, that are in force for electrical appliances and fittings before 1 December 2004, will remain in force after 1 December 2004 unless otherwise varied or withdrawn.
Schedule
1. Decorative Lighting Outfit-An electrical appliance which:
(a) is for decorative, display or illumination purposes;
(b) is portable;
(c) consists of:
(i) lamps or lampholders interconnected by flexible cord of less than 2.5 square millimetres cross-sectional area; or
(ii) lamps within a flexible enclosure; and
(d) may be integral with a frame or similar support;
and includes:
(e) any integral power supply or control device.
2. Luminaire - Portable Type-As defined in AS/NZS 4417.2 Appendix E item E2.30 but does not include appliances where less than 50 items are manufactured to any particular design.
3. Outlet Device-As defined in AS/NZS 4417.2 Appendix E item E2.34.
4. Plug-As defined in AS/NZS 4417.2 Appendix E item E2.35.
5. Residual Current Device-As defined in AS/NZS 4417.2 Appendix E item E2.40.
6. Room Heater-As defined in AS/NZS 4417.2 Appendix E item E2.41.
7. Supply Flexible Cord-As defined in AS/NZS 4417.2 Appendix E item E2.44.
