Amendment of Quota Allocation Mechanisms Following Review—EU High Quality Beef Tariff Rate Quota

The New Zealand Meat Board has reviewed its existing quota allocation mechanisms under the Meat Board Act 2004, being mechanisms for the EU High Quality Beef TRQ (dated September 2006).

The Board has agreed that amendments will be made to the existing allocation system pursuant to section 27 of the Act, including:

  • A new date for companies to advise Board if they will use all General and Reserved Quota Allowance allocated to them in the current Quota Year – namely, “1 April”
  • A new date for the Board to have advised companies of reallocations of unused quota – namely, “15 April”.

The amended mechanism will come into effect on 1 March 2020 in relation EU High Quality Beef TRQ. There is no change to the allocation mechanisms for EU Sheepmeat and Goatmeat TRQ and US Beef and Veal TRQ.

Notes:

  • The EU High Quality Beef TRQ applies to 1.300 tonnes product weight and the tariff rate for “in quota” imports is twenty per cent ad valorem duty.

A Manual containing the amended mechanism is available from the Board, PO Box 121, Wellington, or on the Board’s website: https://www.nzmeatboard.org/quotas/eu-high-quality-beef/quota-manual/

Dated at Wellington this 13th day of February 2020.
